Getting GC Library Privileges from Off Site

All CUNY doctoral faculty are permitted to use licensed Graduate Center IT software and Grad Center Library resources from outside the GC building with an active GC Network userid/pwd. For CUNY Science doctoral faculty users, the GC network userid/pwd may be obtained by emailing the Graduate Center IT help desk with a request. If necessary, the Grad Center Provost's office can supply verification of your status.

About Dual Access to Science E-Resources

After the first year of doctoral study, most science students enjoy dual access to electronic resources because of dual affiliations as students or staff on two separate CUNY campuses.  CUNY PhD students always have access to resources from the CUNY Graduate Center library. As an affiliate of a lab or other project, or as a GTA or adjunct on another CUNY campus doctoral students can also use library resources funded by another CUNY library, such as Hunter, City College, John, Jay, CSI, or Lehman.  So, after the first year, check your affiliated campus library as well as the CUNY Graduate Center Library for journal articles and databases you need. You must login to each CUNY campus library through their separate and distinct proxy servers.

Please note the following when seeking e-journals:

      • When you know the title of the journal, search the title on the journals page for each library where you have access.
      • Some databases make changes in access, from “to present” or “til one year ago” without notifying subscribers.
      • If a journal listing at the GC falsely says accessibility from "to present" or "til one year ago", we welcome notification of these occurances.  Please notify to make changes.
      • Students with GC access can request an issue needed via Interlibrary Loan.

      Google Scholar

Google Scholar no longer supports the LibX toolbar. Instead, use Scholar from the tab on the library home page. OR customize your brower's Google Scholar settings by including "library links" for all libraries with which you are affiliated (e.g. the Mina Rees Library CUNY Graduate Center and Hunter College Library). The settings direct Scholar to sense the full-text articles available through your affiliated institution.

      CUNY LibX Toolbars

Download and install these free toolbars when searching the web. The toolbar will indicate journals or articles licensed by a particular CUNY Library. Hint: if you are affiliated with more than one CUNY library, download one library toolbar on Firefox, and another library toolbar on Chrome. Then use the different browsers to search for different CUNY library holdings.
