During regular hours, visitors to the New York Public Library's research collections are entitled to the following:
Graduate Center students and faculty may apply to use the New York Public Library’s three research study centers in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building @ 42nd Street & 5th Avenue.
The Frederick Lewis Allen Room, the Wertheim Study, and the Shoichi Noma Reading Room are available to researchers requiring intensive use of the library’s collections for the preparations of books, dissertations, or other projects.
GC students and faculty simply register for NYPL borrowing privileges by bringing a valid GC ID card and an NYPL library card to one of the four NYPL research libraries:
Apply for a NYPL card online or in person at any NYPL location. Only general research items in good condition will circulate from the NYPL collections. The condition will be evaluated by a librarian at the point of check-out. In general:
Request items in advance, allowing you to make the most of your time when you visit NYPL.
Loan periods directly from NYPL for GC borrowers are 120 days, subject to recall. Renewals may be requested on site.
GC borrowers may also request books from NYPL via Interlibrary loan. ILL books from NYPL to GC borrowers also receive the 120 day loan period.
