Calculate frequencies

1. From the Analyze menu, choose "Descriptive Statistics", and then click "Frequencies". The Frequencies dialog box should open.

2. Select the variable(s) you want to analyze. Click the arrow transfer button to move them into the Variables box.

3. Click OK.

 

Cross-tab comparisons

1. From the Analyze menu, choose "Descriptive Statistics", and then click "Crosstabs". The Crosstabs dialog box opens.

2. Select the independent variable and click the transfer arrow button to move it to the Row(s) box.

3. Select the dependent variable and click the transfer arrow button to move it to the Column(s) box.

4. Click OK.

Selecting cases

1. Click the Data menu, and then click "Select Cases". The Select Cases dialog box should appear.

2. Choose a variable to filter by, and define any conditional statements.

3. Click OK

4. Usually you will then redo a previous analysis to see how the selected cases are affected.

5. To clear selected cases, click the Data menu, and then click "Select Cases".

6. Select "All cases", then click OK.

Splitting files

Splitting a file lets you analyze one variable simultaneously on two groups and see how the results compare.

1. Click the Data menu, and then click "Split File". The Split File dialog box will appear.

2. Select the variable you wish to base your groups on.

3. Select the "Compare groups" option.

4. Click the transfer arrow button to move the variable to the "Groups Based on" box.

5. Click OK.

6. Perform (or rerun) your analysis to see how these groups compare.
