Alice Kallman was born and raised in New York. After attending the University of Chicago for her undergraduate degree, she worked for three years in New Orleans at a public defender's office. While here, Alice thought a lot about access to information and decided to pursue a master's degree in Library Science at Queens College. Over the course of her studies, she worked at the New York Public Library, and then with the oral history project at the Queens Public Library. Alice also served as a Scholarly Communications Fellow with CUNY’s Office of Library Services and explored the importance of Open Access resources in providing free information to all.
In addition to working at the Grad Center, Alice also works part time at the Queens Public Library in the Correctional Outreach department doing reentry programming for individuals returning home from incarceration. When she is not riding the trains between these jobs, Alice enjoys building community through organizing, taking walks, and recommending books to friends!
