There are many ways that classics periodicals have been abbreviated over the years. The database L'Année Philologique has established a way of abbreviating periodicals that has become one standard in the profession. The University of California Berkeley Library has created a list of these abbreviations from L'Année Philologique.
For further information, the book Dictionary of Bibliographic Abbreviations Found in the Scholarship of Classical Studies and Related Disciplines, compiled by Jean Susorney Wellington (Ref. PA99 .W44 1983), gives even more information on the variations many periodicals and books have gone through in the classical fields.
